Techno Relationship
Sitting in a sun light room. Sitting in a moon dark room. A dim light casts shadows on the desk and the ambiance is cast by the light of a computer monitor. Wow. I am in another room, separated, disconnected, isolated. What is so compelling? What is the attraction? Wow. Small fights, battles over allocation of time, miscommunication and a lack of understanding. What are you doing? Wow.
He comes forward. Leaves the cast of the blue tinted light. Disconnects from the techno world of inclusion and objectives. We snuggle on the couch. We hold hands as we walk to the movies. Wow. my turn.
I set up on the bed. I put on my glasses. I change into something more comfortable. I have my glass of water for hydration and a little snack for energy. Once I am settled in and ready, I download the program. Wow. A few minutes later I have a character and I am playing.
He is staring at me in shock and excitement. Rushing over he shows me this world he has been living in. He joins me in the game. He joins me in life. I am giving World of Warcraft a chance.
He stepped away from World of Warcraft (WoW) to give me the time I asked for, so now it is my turn to reach out and step into WoW to understand what he is doing. He gives, I give.
…and now I am a night elf named Aelfgifu (of course) on WoW. …..Wow!

I’m speechless. Did you really? Wow.
That is wonderful… I came across your page while looking for nice photos of Night Elves. You story is much like mine, my boyfriend constantly played WoW, and I couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t leave his fantasy world and spend time with me. Finally he did, he started cuddling with me and spending more and more time with me, so I decided to see what his world was. Now I am both a Blood Elf and a Night Elf and we have a much better relationship because he was able to show me his world and his love for games.
I love that you experienced the same thing, that is awesome!
If he is gaming life, what is the metaphor? If he plays with you as you might be as goddess or less, what happens if he discovers who you really are when you’re not dancing…I guess it’s better to dance, to touch the skin of erotic fantasy before hugging the substance of what might be a real concern for connections to the beat of mutual heart throbs
I appreciate the poetic concern over falling off pedestals and lack of human connection. But after 9 years of human connection I dont think that WOW is going to sever all of those. If there was a pedestal that I was on, I have fallen a long time ago….luckily he caught me. =)
hooray for WoW!
I am now a 52 Night Elf Druid…uh yeah, I am addicted. =) Plus I get to scream at all the horde (not that they understand me) “my boyfriend is going to beat you up!” HA HA!
