Results of the 100 Word Challenge

January 3rd, 2008

Well today is the day for the results of the [tag]100 word challenge[/tag]. Velvet Verbosity wrote a great piece on the sharing the excitement of Christmas with your siblings (click to read). Roca from A Murder of Crows wrote a wonderful poem about the excitement, frustration and humor of putting up the tree (click to read). Lastly, I wrote, no surprise, on snow. yeah I have a strange relationship with snow.

So here is mine:

The smell of snow and wood fire fill the crisp air. Vistas of snow covered trees and white twinkling lights. I peek through windows of Victorian quiescence with my minds image of Norman Rockwell paintings living behind the leaded glass. I see no carolers but hear the music in my head, ringing out of cars and homes. My mind fills with heart breaking love and memory of all the holidays of all my years. It is never one thing that brings that feeling back, it is an essence of existence that permeates my senses and captures these moments in time.

This was a fun challenge and great for working on your writing. Well, since miss Velvet Verbosity has hosted one and I have hosted one, I think it is time to pass the torch to our famous poetess Roca! The rules are here and the next deadline will be Jan 16. I can’t wait to see what topic Roca picks!

The last part of your entry is like a hammer; it is the sum of all my earlier Christmas times that fuels my memories.
    Very nicely done!

As for being a poetess; I think my mother would be surprised and my wife would be shocked. But I take it as a complement, none the less.

Well, apologies about the gender bending =) But a good word smith you are! I am glad you liked what I wrote. I definitely have a thing for snow. It has always made me enormously contemplative. I am really glad I got to read what you wrote and I am glad you participated and therefore wrote what you wrote! =) I look forward to your topic.
