Mission Implantable: 100 Word Challenge part III
First it was Velvet Verbosity with the Spirit of Christmas. Then it was passed to me with Christmas Nostalgia. Now it is A Murder of Crows with Most Memorable New Years Eve. The due date is Jan. 16, it is not too late! Here is my submission. A little different. A little cryptic. A little like the poetry I use to write. =)
The ball fell.
It was anticlimactic.
We popped the cork.
Champaign is always disappointing.
Film canisters filled with black powder.
Cannon fuse and duct tape.
I didn’t know fireworks were so easy to make.
We sent them into the air
The police came in helicopters.
They didn’t know it was us.
You kissed me at midnight.
It was our first.
Midnight.
They kissed for eight hours
It wasn’t me
But I could feel it
In my mind
I was inside both of them
My thoughts were visceral
My body was separated
No one knew, us
It was our first.
Midnight.
Results of the 100 Word Challenge
Well today is the day for the results of the [tag]100 word challenge[/tag]. Velvet Verbosity wrote a great piece on the sharing the excitement of Christmas with your siblings (click to read). Roca from A Murder of Crows wrote a wonderful poem about the excitement, frustration and humor of putting up the tree (click to read). Lastly, I wrote, no surprise, on snow. yeah I have a strange relationship with snow.
So here is mine:
The smell of snow and wood fire fill the crisp air. Vistas of snow covered trees and white twinkling lights. I peek through windows of Victorian quiescence with my minds image of Norman Rockwell paintings living behind the leaded glass. I see no carolers but hear the music in my head, ringing out of cars and homes. My mind fills with heart breaking love and memory of all the holidays of all my years. It is never one thing that brings that feeling back, it is an essence of existence that permeates my senses and captures these moments in time.
This was a fun challenge and great for working on your writing. Well, since miss Velvet Verbosity has hosted one and I have hosted one, I think it is time to pass the torch to our famous poetess Roca! The rules are here and the next deadline will be Jan 16. I can’t wait to see what topic Roca picks!

There is still time to write your [tag]100 word challenge[/tag]. Velvet Verbosity has written her, which I will post on the 3rd. If you would like to write on [tag]Holiday Nostalgia[/tag], please send me the link or the piece by Jan. 2nd. I will post the writings on the third and hopefully pass the torch onto someone. Oh the pressure, I still have to write mine. =)

The writer of [tag]Velvet Verbosity[/tag], a friend of mine who is herself a good [tag]writer[/tag], posted a challenge to writers. Write [tag]100 words[/tag], exactly, on the topic of her choice. She chose “[tag]Christmas Spirit[/tag].” I did not think that I was going to join this [tag]writing challenge[/tag] but the snow inspired me. So I wrote more on the snow than Christmas, but so often in memory the two are synonymous. Here is what I wrote:
[tag]Snow[/tag] falls heavily in small flakes making a wall of flurries collecting into a duvet of blue tinted white warmth. Everyone thinks snow is cold. The world actually warms when it snows. The sun’s light is reflected back up, as though it is sunny twice. The storm coated the middle with ice but put us inside a snow globe. Tiny white flakes swirling around people as they walk, curling around tires and trees, sneaking into coats and sleeves. Breathing in the crisp smell of winter you momentarily erase everything else. The present is cold and invigorating and smells of memory.
