Happy Ostara!

March 20th, 2008

Ostara Bunny
Today is the vernal equinox; the first day of spring; and to all of us pagans out there Ostara! Today is the day when day and night are in perfect harmony. They are exactly equal in length. Everyday after today will have a little more light than the day before, well up until the Summer Equinox and then the day gets slowly shorter. But this means we are on the upswing. The snow is melting, the helebores are green and the crocuses are peaking their heads out of the dirt! Spring is here, even if the spring weather has not quite landed in Massachusetts. Though just knowing it is here makes a long gloomy winter seem a little bit brighter!

At our house, Harvey the Ostara bunny came and visited and managed to litter our house with eggs.

At work I am giving out little cups with candy in it

and wearing bunny ears.
Me in Bunny Ears
Yes, I am that festive. Honestly, it has just put me in a good mood. Things here have been gray and rainy and cold and depressing and overwhelming and unending. I don’t mean to make it sound that gloomy, there have been beacons of light in the dismal end of winter. *wink* yeah, you know who you are..he he he. Seriously though, this winter keeps dragging on and bringing in some festivities seemed far over due.

Spring Snow Bunny
So I hope you all have a Happy Ostara and for those of you non-pagans out there, have a good easter. So here is some good Ostara/Easter humor to lighten your day.

Does Phil Feel Lucky?

February 3rd, 2008

Punxsutawney Phil

Phil’s official forecast as read 2/2/08 at sunrise at Gobbler’s Knob:

Here Ye! Here Ye! Here Ye!

On Gobbler’s Knob on this fabulous Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2008
Punxsutawney Phil, the Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators,
Rose to the call of President Bill Cooper and greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths.

After casting a weathered eye toward thousands of his faithful followers,
Phil consulted with President Cooper and directed him to the appropriate scroll, which proclaimed:

“As I look around me, a bright sky I see, and a shadow beside me.
Six more weeks of winter it will be!”

So I guess it is 6 more weeks of winter, ho hum. Of course I have always found this to be funny because if he does not see his shadow then it is six more weeks until spring. Either way you cut it, it is six more weeks. Of course that is the first day of spring, Ostara,….the pagan easter. At my house Harvey the Ostara bunny likes to visit and hide his wonderful eggs! Of course if you are pagan this all makes sense, and I am sure I will explain it around Ostara. So you will just have to wait.

But I do love that there really is a Punxsutawney Phil, he even has his own website. I must say, I really love how fat he is.

New Years Resolution, from you to me to the world

January 11th, 2008

A fellow blogger friend, mokkikunta, of mine sent me an interesting list and asked me to join. It is a list of new years resolutions from fellow bloggers that seems to be traveling the world. It does show that through our cultural diversity, that our value and desires are so very often the same. So if you want to join just follow the instructions that follow, otherwise enjoy the sharing!

*Start Copy Here*

When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions we seem to fall into four categories: 1) quite serious about them, 2) be flippant about them, 3) do it because we feel pressured to, or 4) do not do them. So, the purpose of this little game is to let us know which category you are in. Copy from “*Start Copy Here*” through “*End Copy Here*” and post it. Before “*End Copy Here*” tell us who you are, your site(s) (with link) and your New Year’s Resolution, or not. Then tag as many others as you like, from one to your entire blogroll, your choice. If you like, create an intro paragraph to your post that also acknowledges who tagged you.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS:Juliana – Juliana’s Site My New Year’s resolutions are looking for a part time job, keep blogging, and learn to cook and bake. Michelle - Rusin Roundup 1. Learn to be happier and accept myself for who I am, 2. Is to lose about 25 lbs., and 3. Is to stop smoking.Karen - Grow Rich Along With Me My resolution for next year is to achieve $3K per month passive income by the end of 2008. Mel - Attitude, the Ultimate Power ;“I don’t need no stinking resolutions.” I never hold to them anyway so why frustrate myself by starting them now.Sandee - Comedy Plus I don’t need no stinking resolutions either. Years and years ago I did them because everyone else did, but not once did I follow through. Why set yourself up for failure? Lynda - lynda’s loft My resolution is to see resolve to that which needs resolution. Like Mel and Sandee, I feel that resolutions give us more stress, however, being a person who sets goals each year, isn’t that the same thing as a resolution??? Goals vs. resolutions? Goals are more general and allow for more time to complete them, a resolution requires a mind-set and immediate action, which is not always feasible… Well, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it…Amelia - Amel’s Realm This is a list of my New Year’s Resolution:1. Health: Continue exercising twice a week, eat enough veggies and fruit, have enough rest, take vitamin C regularly and women’s multivitamin during my period.2. Spiritual: Improve my Daily Bread reading routine and my prayer life and learn more from God’s Word.3. Financial: Continue to make money online (my goal is getting €100 per month at least), be more creative in writing posts, and save most of the money…Max - MAX My New Year’s resolutions are to dedicate more time to my friends; to finally be able to read “Der Spiegel” in German; to be calm when organizing my marriage; to go one last time to my favourite club and dance the night away; and continue to be happy! Eric - Speedcat Hollydale - I love chicken. Problem is that I really never get to have enough chicken! My New Year’s resolution is to enact “Chicken Tuesday”. On this day I will eat only chicken, blog about chicken, and promote chickens all over the world. (hormone free) Join me, won’t you? Marzie - Mariuca ;- My resolution for 2008 is to enjoy a healthier lifestyle and to expand my Perfume Collection. Sindi- Life Is A Roller Coaster - My resolution is to complain less, pray more and be a little more thankful for what I have. Judy - Sugar Queen’s Dream First Time Dad - My New Year’s Resolution for 2008 is to be a better father…now I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions because I never keep them but this one I better keep! Happy New Year to one and all! Colin - Life - New Years Resolution? No way…Better to achieve more throughout the year rather than pander to the whims of a one day ‘wishful thought’ Mauro - 1 Million Love Messages - My resolution for next year are: 1. Change my job (maybe work online). I’m really unhappy in the actual one. 2. Dedicate more time to my family and girlfriend… 3. Work hard in 1 Million Love Messages and reach 2500 Love messages (or more) in the end of 2008. MidgetManOfSteel - Mental Poo - To get out of dealing with people who I have no desire in helping at the job I’m doing…catch the eye of someone who can see that I can write and be funny…and get my own ticket to happiness from my humor….and a Ferrari. While I’m doing this, I resolve to get a Ferrari. Stacy - My Thoughts My New Year’s Resolution for 2008 - Is to be more understanding to my children and to other people, Not to curse at others while I am driving, try to eat right and exercise, try to volunteer in my community, and to believe more in my spiritual side. Jason -DatCurious.comDatMoney.com Although, I normally don’t do New Year’s Resolutions (because I find it as an excuse to actually do something I should’ve already been doing), this year I will plan on giving back to the blogging community, especially my audience. I’m not sure how I will do it yet, but I definitely will. Kesa - Little Aussie Cynic My New Years Resolution is the standard….. to finally get off the smokes and to loose 8kg…. both which are possible just difficult…..Happy New Year to you and yours….AussieAnn - A Nice Place in the Sun - “To let the rest of my life begin as soon as possible.”Hanna- Amori, poesie, arte, chat virtuali by Hanna Io, Hanna, nel 2008 cerchero’ di ritornare indietro, vorrei rivivere 2007!!! (I, Hanna, would want to live again2007!!!) Leena-Conceptisaddict-My resolution years ago was that I do not do resolutions! I can however promise to keep on solving puzzles and blogging. mokki - mokkikunta - I will think about it, and tell you after.
Lauren- Remodeled Woman I don’t make New Years resolutions. So I made a post resolution decision to quit smoking. As I am writing this I am in my third day as a non-smoker! *End Copy Here*

Last snow of 2007

December 31st, 2007

Tree covered in snow Late last night the [tag]snow[/tag] started to fall. This is the last snow fall of the year. Tomorrow we will have another snow and ring in the [tag]new year[/tag] with another blanketing. I think it is fitting, covering the world in timelessness as we mark the passing of time. Everything is always happening, now, tomorrow, yesterday, it is all in where our consciousness lies. Today, it is wrapped in the tranquility of beautiful snow.

As I went to bed I looked out the window and the world was bright enough to see without light. Everything was bright gray, except the white snow slowly falling and covering everything. This was wet snow, heavy and sticky. This was snow that is hard to shovel and coats everything. In the morning, power lines were down in some areas. Tree branches had fallen in all areas, not able to stand up to the weight of the heavy we snow. But standing outside, the tree’s were covered with almost three inches of snow, just balancing, precariously, waiting for a wind to knock it loose. The bark of the trees was wet making the bark look nearly black, a beautiful contrast with the bright whiteness of the snow. This morning, I didn’t even mind having to shovel out my car, or even shovel the path to my car. The world was so perfect, so peaceful, all I wanted to do was breath it in as much as I could.
